Compare quotations on the same scope
A lower quoted total does not establish that two suppliers have priced the same work. Use a common drawing revision, order quantity and acceptance specification, then mark every item as included, excluded or awaiting confirmation.
Request written clarification when a supplier proposes a substitution or a different process. Keep the agreed scope and revision with the purchase order so that later changes can be assessed.
Build a comparison record
Record differences before choosing a supplier. Separate recurring unit prices from samples, tooling, setup, tests and other one-time charges.
| Item | What to compare |
|---|---|
| Parts and materials | Revision, grade, thickness, quantity, finish and substitutions. |
| Samples and tooling | Quantity, purpose, approval method, charges and ownership. |
| Assembly | Parts, fasteners, joining and purchased or customer-supplied items. |
| Tolerances | Critical features, measuring method and before/after-finish basis. |
| Appearance | Colour reference, visible surfaces, texture, masking and printing. |
| Inspection | Stages, extent of checks, acceptance criteria and supplied records. |
| Packaging | Protection, labels, packing configuration and transport requirements. |
| Schedule | Start conditions, sample approval, production and dispatch milestones. |
| Delivery costs | Delivery point, freight and other included or excluded charges. |
Check samples and acceptance
Ask whether the proposed sample represents the intended production materials, finish and assembly method. Agree how deviations will be recorded and approved.
Confirm which dimensions or functions will be checked and what records accompany the shipment. A reference photograph or an unspecified 'quality inspection' is not a complete acceptance plan.
Resolve the major differences
Do not compare an enclosure-only price with the price of an assembled machine, or a target arrival date with a committed dispatch date. Identify who is responsible for design changes, missing components, rework and any additional testing.
Review payment and delivery terms in the actual quotation. For a Yesoem enquiry, send the common specification to smith.li@yesoem.com and request a written list of inclusions, exclusions and unresolved items.
